Welcome to House of One People

Welcome to House of One People, a sanctuary for global philosophy and religion, dharma study, creative expression, and honest consideration of the issues of our time. We aim to encourage a respectful dialogue between differing points of view. Our goal is to promote mutual understanding and non-violent conflict resolution.  Along with our spiritual and philosophical explorations, we offer meditation instruction, spiritual counseling services, workshops and training programs, and improvisational music for contemplation and movement.  A section of the site focused on our musical offerings, CDs, and creativity workshops is still in development. Currently the "Music CDs" link takes you to my old site.

The middle name – Genyo – that I use here means song of the mystery.  It is a name I received from Zen teacher, Eve Myonen Marko, to mark my personal committment to to the precepts of peacemaking.  I use this name not so much to refer to me, but rather to honor this committment, and to refer to the meaning of the name. What can we say about the fundamental mystery of existence? How do we give it song?  How do we approach and give expression to the central questions of our lives?  House of One People is a vehicle address these questions.

Ultimately, and despite all our differences, we are one people, genetically related, sharing the same planet, with our lives and fates interwoven through the global economy, and the effects of all of our actions.  For the sake of everyone, from the poor to the rich and powerful, I believe we desperately need a global dialogue.  House One People is home for this dialogue

The Academy offers non-sectarian, multi-perspective, multi-faith philosophical and spiritual education.  Employing written essays (and in the future: podcasts and videos) The Academy explores the core teachings of the world's religious and philosophical traditions.  Can we find harmony amongst all the diverse and seemingly competing viewpoints?  How do we awaken insight, and realize peace, both inner and outer?  In order to realize these goals, it is essential to be open to the value in different philosophical approaches, from the scientific and secular, to all the various spiritual and religious viewpoints.

The Academy is non-sectarian in approach, yet is informed by the Eastern concept of dharma.  Dharma is an Indian Sanskrit word used in both Hindu and Buddhist to philosophy to denote both the teachings and the journey of understanding truth and awakening clarity and compassion.  In the spirit of dharma, along with our philosophical offerings House of One People offers Global Dharma training programs, informed by the heart and wisdom in all traditions.
